COVID-19 situation worrisome in India, urgent in Nepal: WHO



KATHMANDU: World Health Organization (WHO) Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said the COVID-19 pandemic condition in India is worrisome and it has invited an emergency situation in Nepal.

Not only India, the COVID-19 pandemic has also caused an emergency situation in Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand and Egypt, said Tedros.

Tedros has urged the Indian government to be more serious saying that the COVID-19 cases have not still subsided in my Indian States and hospitals are choking with patients and the number of deaths is increasing every single day.

Tedros furthers said that the COVID-19 pandemic which is taking a toll on the human health this year is more deathly compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, the WHO has sent oxygen concentrators, tents for mobile field hospitals, masks and medical goods to India, said Tedros.

“The COVID-19 situation in India is very worrisome. The infections are increasing every single day and so is the number of deaths from COVID-19,” said Tedros.

Tens of thousands of people are being infected in India. As many as 340,000 infection cases were reported on Friday itself.

The number of infection cases which was put at 10 million on last December (2020), has climbed to 20 million in the last six months, BBC Hindi reported.
