KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a recommendation for the appointments of ambassadors to 11 countries including South Korea.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali following his reappointment on Friday informed that the cabinet had recommended names of ambassadors one week earlier and sent the name-list to the parliament secretariat Friday for the parliamentary hearing.
“The name-list of the recommended ambassadors has been sent to the parliament secretariat for parliamentary hearing on Friday,” said Minister Pradeep Gyawali.
Out of 11 recommended, Joint Secretary duo Nirmal Raj Kafle and Jeevan Prakash Shrestha from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been recommended as the Nepali ambassadors to Austria and Egypt, respectively.
The government had issued a directive regarding the appointment of ambassadors and the permanent representative to the United Nations in 2075 BS. According to this directive, 50 percent of ambassadors must be appointed from the diplomat service and the rest from the quotas of the political parties.
Former Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City Ramesh Chandra Paudel has been recommended as the ambassador to Sri Lanka. Krishna Chandra Sharma, former Department Chief of Political Science under the Tribhuvan University has been recommended as the ambassador to South Korea. Sumnima Tuladhar, the daughter of late communist leader Padma Ratna Tuladhar, has been recommended as the ambassador to Australia.
Similarly, other recommended are communist leader Narayan Prasad Sangraula (Myanmar), UML former minister Yubaraj Karki (Bahrain),
Likewise, Kul Prasad Nepal (Brazil), Sumitra Subedi (Denmark), Meraj Musalman (Saudi Arabia) and Janga Bahadur Chauhan, a professor at the Kathmandu University, (Russia) have been recommended as ambassadors.
The process for the appointments of the recommended ambassadors will be taken forward following the endorsement by the parliamentary hearing committee.
