KATHMANDU: Ambassador of France to Nepal Francois-Xavier Leger handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) to as many as 140 informal waster workers at Sisdole landfill site on Tuesday (April 13).
The assistance aimed to improve health, livelihood and wellbeing of informal waste workers of Kathmandu Valley and Sisdole landfill site. The event was financially supported by the French Government and implemented by Médecins du Monde (MdM) France and its NGO partners.
Ambassador Leger also interacted with the waste workers, security and health post personnel stationed there on the occasion.
MdM has been supporting waste workers in Sisdole landfill site since 2019. They focus on prevention of workplace accidents and awareness-raising among waster workers, as well as the provision of personal protective equipment (gloves, hats, shoes, safety vests and masks with filters).
MdM volunteers also work in a health post at the landfill site to ensure access of health services among waste workers.
