SC orders to ensure 33 percent participation of women in political party committees

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has instructed the Election Commission (EC) to ensure 33 percent participation of women in all committees and levels of political parties.

Advocate Indu Tuladhar had filed a writ petition in the SC after the CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Center) failed to register 33 percent participation in the Central Committee.

In the writ petition, she had demanded that the EC be ordered not to register any party if it failed to meet the requirements of the law.

A joint bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Manoj Kumar Sharma issued the order on Sunday.
