7 yrs boy dies during treatment: Family blames negligence on part of doctors

BIRATNAGAR: The premises of Life Guard Hospital at Bargachhi in Biratnagar remained tensed throughout the day on Sunday following the death of a seven-year-old boy during treatment.

Family members and relatives of the deceased have blamed negligence on the part of doctors involved in the treatment of the boy.

On March 10, Karan Mandal of Barju Rural Municipality-1 in Sunsari district was admitted to the hospital after he had vomiting. Mandal was suspected to have consumed diesel.

Mandal was supported on a ventilator on doctor’s advice some hours after he was admitted to an emergency ward, said a villager Arjun Bhandari. Doctors involved in his treatment reported improvement in his health until Sunday morning, said the deceased’s father Harmuni. “Until today morning, our baby was doing well.

He also spoke,” he said. However, the hospital declared the boy’s demise after approximately half an hour, he said.
The family and relatives of the deceased padlocked the entrance gate of the hospital in protest and chanted slogans against the hospital management.

The hospital management, however, denied any negligence on the part of doctors involved in the treatment. But, the hospital has agreed to provide compensation to the family of the deceased, said the Chief of Hospital Administration Niraj Shrestha.
