Foreign Minister Gyawali and India’s External Minister Jaishankar hold talks

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Gyawali (3rd from L) and India's Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar (2nd from R) hold talks in New Delhi.

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali held talks with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday.

The talks which basically focused on bilateral issues were held at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Poudel, Nepal;s Ambassador to India Nilamber Acharya, and Indian Foreign Secretary Harsha Vardhan Shringla were also present during the meeting.

Gyawali, who is currently in New Delhi, will also co-chair the India-Nepal Joint Commission meeting along with Minister Jaishankar on Friday.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of a political confusion in Nepal, where Prime Minister KP Oli has dissolved the House of Representatives in December.

Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that the Joint Commission is an important mechanism providing an opportunity of reviewing at a high level the entire gamut of the bilateral partnership between Nepal and India.

“We look forward to constructive discussions on the numerous sectors that encompass our bilateral agenda,” he said.

Foreign Minister Gyawali’s visit comes about two months after the first high-level diplomatic visit to Nepal in November when Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla visited Kathmandu.
