4,400 votes cast in re-vote for NC President till 8:45 pm

Sher Bahadur Deuba Vs Dr. Shekhar Koirala

KATHMANDU: The second phase of voting for the post of Nepali Congress (NC) President under the 14th General Convention is underway.

According to the party’s Central Election Committee, 4,400 votes have been cast as of 8:45 pm Tuesday evening. Prime Minister and incumbent party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and leader Dr Shekhar Koirala are vying for post in the second round of elections after none of the candidates got more than 50 percent votes in Monday’s election.

The committee has stated that all those who have entered the polling station within the stipulated time will be allowed to cast their votes at the polling station in the City Hall. Although the committee has published the election schedule for re-polling from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, there has been some delay in voting due to technical reasons.

In the vote that took place yesterday, Prime Minister and incumbent NC President Deuba received 2,258 votes and his nearest rival Dr Koirala got 1,702 votes. Former General Secretary Prakash Man Singh got 371 votes, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi got 250 votes and Central Member Kalyan Gurung got 22 votes.
