Deuba most likely to win presidential poll as Singh and Nidhi vow support for him

KATHMANDU: Sher Bahadur Deuba is likely to be elected as the president of the Nepali Congress for the second term through the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.

The second round of voting is taking place to elect the president after none of the presidential candidates secured more than 50 percent of votes in the first round.

The second round of voting is taking place from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, according the schedule published by the election committee.

Dueba who failed to secure 82 more votes to win the election has been able to take leaders Prakash Man Sing and Bimalendra Nidhi into his confidence.

Following the vote count results this morning, Deuba had gone to Singh and Nidhi’s residences and urged them to support him.

Both Nidhi and Singh have vowed their support for Deuba in the second round of voting.

In the first round of voting, Deuba secured 2,258 votes followed by Dr Shekhar Koirala with 1729 votes while Prakash Man Singh, and Bimalendra Nidhi obtained 371, 249 votes, respectively.
