NC General Convention: Second round of voting to take place as no candidate gets required votes



KATHMANDU: The second round of voting will take place under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress to elect a new party President as no candidate got the required votes in the first round.

In the first phase, no candidate could get 50 percent of the votes.

According to the final results, Sher Bahadur Deuba got 2258, Dr. Shekhar Koirala 1729, Prakash Man Singh 371, Bimalendra Nidhi 249 votes and Kalyan Gurung got 20 votes.

Deuba failed to get 82 more votes to win.

In the second phase, there will be a competition between Deuba and Koirala for the party President.

According to the NC statute, it is mandatory to get more than 50 percent of the votes cast to get elected to the post of the party president.

If any candidate does not get more than 50 percent of the votes, re-voting will be held between the two candidates getting the most votes.

In the re-polling, the candidate who gets the most votes will win.
