KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed introducing the immense intellectual capacity of Nepal to the world by exposing the several talents hidden inside the country’s fame and dignity.
He said this while addressing the 36th Academic Assembly of Nepal Academy today. The PM is also the Chief Patron of the Academy.
prime Minister Deuba said a nation cannot achieve prosperity no matter how prosperous it might be if it does not make cultural progress.
Stating that the Academy established as conceptualized by Mahakabi Laxmi Prasad Devkota and the academicians’ initiatives have carried out significant works in the field of the nation’s language, literature, culture, philosophy, etc, he said the Academy should further contribute towards academic studies and preservation of the culture.
PM Deuba also stressed on the aproduction of academic materials as per the demand of the time. He said construction of the Mahakavi Devkota Museum would be a respect to the Great Poet Devkota. He urged the Assembly to take decisions having lasting impact in the cultural realm.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale lauded the Academy for giving regularity to the academy’s activities, including study and research, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Culture expert and litterateur Centenarian person Satya Mohan Joshi said Nepal Academy can contribute to enrichment of linguistic and literary sectors by publishing and re-publishing the historical texts and books.
Academy’s Former Chancellor Bairagi Kainla said the Academy has done a commendable job by issuing identity cards to the writers and litterateurs.
Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama Narayan Bhakta Shrestha ‘Rayan’ and Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, KK Karmacharya extended their best wishes in the senate assembly.
At the programme to distribute identity cards to litterateurs, PM Deuba initiated the task of providing the identity cards by handing the identity card to former member-secretary of the Academy and centenarian person Joshi, Chancellor Ganga Prasad Uprety, former Chancellor Kainla and former member-secretary Geeta Keshari.
Academy member-secretary Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya said the task of distributing the identity card to writers would be pursued gradually on the basis of applications.
The re-designed version of the Academy’s website was also formally launched on the occasion. Online booking of the Academy’s hall and sale and distribution of books and magazines can be done through the website.
