KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Bijay Kumar Gachhadar, who was involved in the Lalita Niwas land scam, has been released on a bail of Rs 1 million Wednesday.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against 175 people, including Gachhadar, at the special court for their involvement in facilitating the transfer of 113 ropanis of government land to individual names.

Gachhadar was placed on the “absconding” list after he repeatedly refused to appear before the court and understand the term of the case.

The special court Tuesday ordered Gachhadar to post bail of Rs 1 million after recording his statement, court spokesperson Pushpa Raj Pandey said.

The NC leader produced himself before the court this morning after almost a year following the NC taking charge of the government Tuesday.
