UML Sudurpaschim PP suspends 7 lawmakers of Oli faction

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML’s Sudurpaschim Parliamentary Party (PP) has suspended seven Provincial Assembly (PA) members, close to party Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, for disobeying whip.

A meeting of UML Sudurpaschim PP Monday took a decision to this effect.

The UML PP in Sudurpaschim, which has a majority of senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal faction, had issued a whip to vote for Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatt in a vote of confidence motion.

But PA members close to Oli faction — Lila Dhar Bhatt, Nepalu Chaudhary, Ratan Thapa, Pathan Singh Bohara, Gyalbu Bohara, Maya Tamang and Baldev Regmi — voted against the motion. Following that, PP leader Prakash Bahadur Shah also sought clarification from them.

In addition, they also violated PP whip and voted against the policy and program of Sudurpaschim government.

UML Sudurpaschim whip Durga BK said some of them were suspended for 7 days and some for 10 days.

The suspended lawmakers also participated in the meeting Monday that decided to suspend them. The suspended lawmakers have protested the decision.
