KP Oli sworn in as Prime Minister; repeats old cabinet



KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Prime Minister KP Oli has been sworn in today. He took the oath of office and secrecy Friday afternoon.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prime Minister Oli at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas Friday.

The President had on Thursday re-appointed him the Prime Minister in the capacity of the leader of the largest party in the capacity of the leader of the largest party in the parliament as per Article 76 (3).

The President on May 9 had called for two or more than two political parties to present the claim for a new prime minister with a majority of the members of HoR by Thursday 9.00 pm as per Article 76 (2) of the Nepal Constitution.

Though the main opposition Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) made effort to gather support from a majority of HoR members it was not materialized in the stipulated period.

With the expiration of the given period, Oli was appointed as the prime minister in the capacity of the leader of the largest party in the parliament as per Article 76 (3).
