RANJHA: A man has been arrested in possession of arms and ammunition held illegally from Raptisonari rural municipality of Banke district.
Rishiram Tharu,68, was arrested from Jabarpur in ward no. 5 of the rural municipality on Saturday. Acting on a special tip-off police raided his house to recover the illegally held weapons, assistant sub-inspector at the Area Police Office, Dhampur Fatteh Singh Tharu said.
Police recovered hand-made pistol, shot gun, gunpowder and other traditional weapons from Rishiram and his son Om Prakash Tharu and brother Lal Bahadur Tharu’s house. Likewise, deer horn, wild boar teeth, deer teeth and porcupine quills were also recovered from Rishiram’s house.
Rishiram was a candidate representing the Janaganatantrik Morcha Nepal for the post of Chair of the rural municipality and Banke 1 provincial assembly member elections. Meanwhile, Lal Bahadur and Om Prakash have escaped and a search is being carried out to find them, police said.
