KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded the government to facilitate import and export through Rasuwagadhi, a major trade gateway between Nepal and China.

Issuing a statement on Sunday, NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma demanded to ease trade through the checkpoint saying that the checkpoint that was closed due to the coronavirus was not operating properly even when the risk of coronavirus infection has subsided.

“The party draws the government’s serious attention to the fact that citizens and businessmen have been suffering,” Sharma said.

The party added that it was sad that more than 1,500 containers have been stranded at the border as only five containers have been allowed to enter daily.

NC has demanded to find a solution to the problem through dialogue with the Chinese side as soon as possible, saying that the businessmen have been affected and the revenue collection of the state has been hit.

Earlier, local businessmen had protested in Rasuwa against China’s ‘undeclared blockade’.

Nepali businessmen have also complained that they had to pay a hefty bribe to Chinese agents to import goods across the border.
