Prachanda-Madhav faction offers Deuba premiership in case HoR reinstated

KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Madhav faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has urged Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba to cooperate in the fight against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

In a secret meeting with President Deuba on Wednesday evening, the Prachanda-Madhav faction offered the former the post of premiership on the condition the HoR is reinstated.

In reply, Deuba said he would put this proposal forward as an agenda in a party meeting and would act accordingly.

In the two-hour-long meeting held from 6 to 8 pm in the capital yesterday, Prachanda asked Deuba why he was laying so much emphasis on the election. Responding to Prachanda’s query, Deuba said even though Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s move to dissolve the parliament is unconstitutional, to go for elections is a democratic culture.

Commenting on Deuba’s response, Prachanda said the democracy will fall at jeopardy if we hit the streets against the dissolution of the HoR and advocate for the election at the same time.
