NC General Convention: Five hundred votes yet to be cast



KATHMANDU: As many as 4,200 votes have been cast in the Nepali Congress (NC) General Convention till 9 pm on Monday.

According to the Election Committee, the polling started at 11 am and will continue till night.

Earlier, the Election Committee had issued a notice saying that polling would be held till 9 pm.

However, Tej Bahadur Rawal, a member of the Election Committee, said that voting would be held till 10 pm now.

Voting is expected to end at 10:30 pm, he said. A total of 4,743 voters are participating in the Nepali Congress General Convention.

Five people are vying for chairmanship in the general convention.

Incumbent party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Dr Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi and Kalyan Gurung are in the fray.

As soon as voting concludes, the counting of votes of presidential candidates will start.

Re-polling will take place if no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the votes in the first round.
