3,509 votes cast till 8 pm for NC’s new leadership

KATHMANDU: As many as 3,509 votes have been cast till 8 pm in the voting for Nepali Congress’ (NC) new leadership.

With voting concluding at 9 pm, more than 1,200 votes are yet to be cast.

Voting began 11:30 pm on Monday.

The Election Committee said 3,509 votes have been cast till 8 pm.

However, it doesn’t look like all the 4,743 delegates will be able to cast vote by 9 pm and the voting is marred by issues such as ballot papers crunch and the process taking much longer than expected.

There are 4,743 voters in the General Convention.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh, Dr. Shekhar Koirala and Kalyan Gurung are vying for the post of NC president in the general convention.

Two members have been elected unopposed in the NC Central Working Committee so far and voting is underway for the reamining 132 members.

As soon as voting concludes, the counting of votes of presidential candidates will start.

Re-polling will take place if no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the votes in the first round.
