NC General Convention: PM Deuba casts vote



KATHMANDU: Incumbent party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has cast his vote in the ongoing election for the new leadership of the Nepali Congress party.

Deuba, who is also the party’s presidential candidate, cast his vote at the polling station at Sabha Griha, Exhibition Road.

Voting is taking place at three polling stations.

There are 1,100 booths in the Rastriya Sabha ground and Bhrikuti Mandap Hall.

A total of 4,743 delegates from across the country will select the 134-member central leadership.

Five candidates are in the fray for the post of NC President, seven for two vice-presidents, six for two general secretaries, and 19 for eight joint general secretaries.

Deuba, Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh are competing for the chairmanship by forming a panel.

Another candidate for the party President Prakashman Singh also cast his vote while other candidates Dr Shekhar Koirala and Bimalendra Nidhi are yet to cast their votes.

Likewise, candidates for the vice-president, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Sujata Koirala have already voted while leaders Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Sunil Thapa, Home Minister Balkrishna Khand, and Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Uma Regmi also dropped their ballots.

The voting began with NC leader Kul Bahadur Gurung casting his ballot.
