Election Commission refuses validating actions taken by JSP rival factions

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has rejected actions taken by both sides of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and decided to leave intact the record of office-bearers in the party’s registration book.

The Upendra Yadav faction — with the majority of Executive Committee — had expelled Chairman Mahantha Thakur and Executive Committee members Rajendra Mahato, Sarbendra Nath Shukla and Laxman Lal Karna from the party while Chairman Thakur had expelled Upendra Yadav. Both sides had approached the EC to update the actions in the party’s registration book.

“On the basis of facts, grounds and legal provisions, it is not possible to update the records as demanded in accordance with Section 51 of the Political Parties Act, 2017. As per sub-rule (60) of rule 25 of the Political Parties Rules 2018, the details of the office-bearers of the party remain the same,” the EC stated.
