KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said it was time to wage a battle against the communist parties.

He clarified that the communist parties were trying to impose totalitarianism, and it was time to fight against them to keep the legacy of democratic principles alive.

Addressing a program organized by NC Central Women’s Department in Kathmandu Saturday, the NC President said, “Democracy is paramount at the moment. The communist parties are hell-bent on imposing one-party authoritarian rule. The NC should now fight for democracy and its principles.”

Accusing other political parties of not fully embracing democratic principles, he said the NC had forever defended democracy.

“The current political situation is mired in uncertainty. There is no reason for the NC to be greedy and hurry to grab power. However, we won’t run away from the responsibility if need be,” Deuba added.
