UML’s Nepal-Khanal group forms parallel structure to counter Oli’s move

KATHMANDU: The Nepal-Khanal faction of the ruling CPN-UML has formed a parallel structure in the party to counter party Chairman KP Oli’s move on Saturday.

A Central Committee (CC) meeting of the faction held at a Shankhamul-based café this afternoon took a decision to this effect.

“The parallel structure has been formed to counter party Chairman KP Oli’s decision to strip the leaders of Nepal-Khanal faction of their responsibilities,” said a UML leader close to the dissident faction.

According to the decision, leader Bhim Acharya has been appointed as the party coordinator in Pradesh 1, Ghanashyam Bhusal in Pradesh 2, Astalaxmi Shakya in Pradesh 3, Surendra Pandey in Pradesh 4, Yubraj Gyawali in Pradesh 5 and 6 and Bhim Rawal in Pradesh 7.

Chairman Oli on Friday nominated 23 former leaders of the CPN (Maoist Center) to the UML’s Central Committee and took actions against the leaders close to the Nepal-Khanal faction.

A meeting of the UML’s PM Oli faction held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar nominated the former Maoist leaders to UML central committee.

Likewise, the CPN-UML has decided to hold its general convention in the third week of November.

Prime Minister Oli, also the chairperson, fixed the date of the party’s general convention after holding discussions with party leaders at his official residence in Baluwatar Friday.

The decision, however, was taken without informing the dissident leaders including  Nepal and Khanal, sources said.
