KATHMANDU: Presidential candidate in the 14th General Convention of ruling Nepali Congress (NC), Bimalendra Nidhi, has said that none of the five candidates will secure win in the first phase of the election, and in the second phase, all candidates will unite against party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Speaking to the reporters at NC General Convention site Sunday, Bhrikutimandap, Nidhi remarked that none of the presidential candidates will get mandatory majority of 50 percent in the first phase.
Along with Nidhi, incumbent President Deuba, Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh and Kalyan Gurung are in the fray for the post of party President.
He also revealed that all contestants from non-establishment faction, i.e. all contestants except President Deuba, will stand united against Deuba in the second phase of the election.
“We are in favor of consensus. As none will get enough majority to claim the post of party President in the first round of the election to take place on Monday, all candidates from non-establishment faction, will stand together to find a common candidate as an alternative to President Deuba,” Nidhi said.
