Six leaders in the fray for NC presidency

548 candidates file nominations for 134 posts of Central Working Committee



KATHMANDU: Six leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) party have registered their candidacy for the post of party president.

Incumbent party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, leaders Dr. Shekhar Koirala, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, Kalyan Gurung and Yuvaraj Neupane have filed their candidacy to the top post.

Likewise, leaders, including Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Purna Bahadur Khadka have filed candidacy for the post of Vice President from the Deuba camp while Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat and Pradeep Paudel are contesting for the post of General Secretary.

Meanwhile, as many as 548 candidates have filed nominations for 134 posts of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nepal Congress in the party’s 14th General Convention.

The NC will have a 167-member CWC after the ongoing general convention.

Of the 167 CWC members, election for 134 posts, including 13 office bearers, will be held in the general convention. To fill the 134 posts, 548 candidates have filed candidacies on Saturday.

Similarly, 20 candidates are contesting for 8 posts of joint general secretary under Khas Arya, women, Dalit, Janajati, Madhesi, Tharu, Muslim and backward communities clusters.

Likewise, central members will be represented by 14 people from Tharu community, 32 Madhesis, 87 Adivasis and Janajatis, 93 Khas Aryas, 39 Dalits, 31 women, 2 persons from backward areas, 16 persons on behalf of people with disabilities, 6 from minority communities, 16 Muslims and 109 people under open category.

In the same way, 13 persons will represent Province 1, 5 from Province 2, 9 from Bagmati Province, 7 from Gandaki Province, 11 from Lumbini Province, 7 from Karnali Province and 12 from Sudurpaschim Province will be elected as central members.

The deadline for lodging and withdrawing complaints is set for 11 am Sunday and the time for withdrawing candidacies for 1 pm.

There are 4,743 delegates who will vote in the NC’s 14th General Convention.

The party’s 14the General Convention kicked off Friday.
