NC sets 11 am for candidates to withdraw nominations



KATHMANDU: The 548 candidates who filed nominations for 134 posts of the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Nepal Congress (NC) in the party’s 14th General Convention can withdraw their candidacies by 11 am Sunday.

As many as 548 candidates had on Saturday filed nominations for 134 posts of the Central Working Committee of the NC in the party’s 14th General Convention.

The NC will have a 167-member CWC after the ongoing general convention.

Of the 167 CWC members, election for 134 posts, including 13 office bearers, will be held in the general convention.

There are six presidential candidates for the post of NC President, seven candidates are vying for two posts of vice presidents, and six candidates will compete for the two posts of general secretary.

Similarly, 20 candidates are contesting for 8 posts of joint general secretary under Khas Arya, women, Dalit, Janajati, Madhesi, Tharu, Muslim and backward communities clusters.

Likewise, central members will be represented by 14 people from Tharu community, 32 Madhesis, 87 Adivasis and Janajatis, 93 Khas Aryas, 39 Dalits, 31 women, 2 persons from backward areas, 16 persons on behalf of people with disabilities, 6 from minority communities, 16 Muslims and 109 people under open category.

In the same way, 13 persons will represent Province 1, 5 from Province 2, 9 from Bagmati Province, 7 from Gandaki Province, 11 from Lumbini Province, 7 from Karnali Province and 12 from Sudurpaschim Province will be elected as central members.

There are 4,743 delegates who will vote in the NC’s 14th General Convention.
