Bibeksheel Sajha demands formation of high-level commission to bring about reform in judicial system

KATHMANDU: Bibeksheel Sajha Party has called for the formation of a high-level commission to bring about lasting reform in the judiciary.

Bibeksheel Sajha Chairman Rabindra Mishra-led faction demanded the formation of a high-level commission at a time when the Supreme Court justices and Nepal Bar Association are mounting undue pressure on Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to step down and rid the judicary of corruption and malfeasance.

Issuing a press statement, signed by Bibeksheel Spokesperson Sharad Raj Pathak, on Friday, the party said that exit of one specific character from the judiciary is unlikely to bring about sea change in the judicial system. “Nevertheless, the same could be the stepping stone towards sustainable reform,” the statement noted.

“Therefore, in order to find a lasting solution to the problem, our party demands the President to form a ‘High Level Commission for Judicial Reform’ by incorporating the recommendation of the parliament and the government.”
