KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has instructed the police not to interfere in the agitation spearheaded by the Nepal Bar Association demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana.

The agitating lawyers on Friday staged a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court barring CJ Rana from entering the court.

The gate of the court has been closed and the agitating legal practitioners have been stopped outside the gate.

Sources said that Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Badu had talked to the Prime Minister, who then asked the Home Minister and the Inspector General not to interfere.

He said that there was a commitment from the government to carry out peaceful agitation and not to use force in peaceful agitation.

Minister Badu expressed his commitment to get the Supreme Administration to open the gate of the Supreme Court.
