Gagan Thapa unhappy with frequent postponement of convention schedule

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member and lawmaker Gagan Thapa has expressed his dissatisfaction at the frequent change of the schedule of the events formerly set for the party’s 14th general convention.

Addressing a program organized by the Gokarneshwar Municipal Committee of NC on Tuesday, Thapa said that he was not very knowledgeable about the General Convention despite being a central member of the party.

“I am a central member of NC, but if you ask me when the general convention will be held, I will not lie. I do not know,” he said.

Lawmaker Thapa held the inability of the leadership responsible for the confusion.

He said that the general convention was uncertain as the party could not accept the existence of the constitution even though it had drafted it. He said that the problem arose when the active membership was not finalized within three and a half years after the convention.

Referring to the expansion of the Council of Ministers by the Prime Minister and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba without any consultation, Thapa said that the meeting of the Parliamentary Board should be held when the legislature appoints a minister.

He said that the leadership did not abide by the constitution.

“If we want to reform the party, we have to resolve to form a party that will abide by the constitution at the 14th general convention,” Thapa said.
