Rain-triggered floods wreak havoc in Beni

BENI: The government employees’ residential area has been inundated with floodwater in Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi this morning.

Heavy rainfall since Friday evening has flooded the area while affecting seven residential buildings and damaging two nurseries.

The roadside canal of the Beni-Arthunge road was completely overflooded as a result of the heavy downpour. Likewise, the landless settlers nearby have also been affected.

The ground floors of seven of the building housing government employees have been inundated with floodwater, said assistant forest officer Nabin Biswakarma. “We had to run to higher ground in the middle of the night,” he said.

Meanwhile, saplings worth 150,000 rupees were damaged after the two nurseries were waterlogged.

Likewise, the Veterinary hospital and the Animal Service Expert Centre are also at risk of being damaged by the floodwater.

The road leading to the election office has been damaged.
