HoR approves shuffle in parliamentary committees

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) has endorsed recommendations to shuffle members of parliamentary committees on Monday.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota announced the changes recommended by political parties in several parliamentary committees at the HoR meeting in federal parliament building in New Baneshwor today.

Lawmakers Ghanshyam Bhusal (UML Madhav Nepal faction), Motilal Dugad (UML KP Oli faction), Barsha Man Pun (CPN-Maoist Center) and Binod Chaudhary (Nepali Congress) are now the members of Finance Committee.

Likewise, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has been moved from State Affairs and Good Governance Committee to Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee.

Similarly lawmakers Gokul Baskota and Rajendra Gautam have become members of Public Accounts Committee. Interestingly, both Baskota and Gautam were subject to the probe carried out by the same committee in security printing press and Omni Group’s medical equipment procurement scams, respectively, in the past.

However, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee has been left intact as it has been conducting parliamentary hearing of justices, who have been recommended to the Supreme Court (SC).

The largest parliamentary party CPN-UML recommended shuffling members of parliamentary committees following the SC verdict of March 7 that annulled the erstwhile Nepal Communist Party (NCP), which had formed after the merger of UML and CPN (Maoist Center).

It has been learnt there was consensus between UML and Maoist Center regarding the re-arrangement of members of parliamentary committees.
