NC lawmaker Pradip Giri appeals for a national consensus govt

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Pradip Giri has called all political parties to agree on the formation of a national consensus government.

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives in New Baneshwor on Monday, lawmaker Giri reiterated that only a national consensus could safeguard the constitution.

“I want to call for a national consensus through this House,” Senior leader Giri said, adding, “It is not the question of who should lead the government, rather it’s time to mull deeply on whether to safeguard the constitution or discard it; if it is to be spared for the achievements it represents, a national consensus is a must.”

He further asked the political parties whether they want this constitution to have the same fate as previous constitutions or as the recently neglected use of updated map in government-provided honorary titles.

Lawmaker Giri reiterated that if the parties want to go to the polls, they should go together forging a consensus on the issue.

He alleged that ongoing political crisis was caused by the prime minister and the corruption and poor governance could not be eliminated by the PM’s slogans.

Giri criticized PM Oli for making high sounding remarks and failing to put them into action.

He also requested PM Oli not to play cunning tricks of Sakuni, the most fatal cunning character of Hindu epic Mahabharat, against parliament and let it complete its full term, referring to PM’s move of dissolving the lower house on December 20 last year.
