Talks between govt and school operators end inconclusively

KATHMANDU: Talks between the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and stakeholders on whether to operate or close schools at risk of coronavirus infection have ended without any concrete decision.

Despite discussions at the Ministry of Education this morning, no concrete conclusion has been reached, said Federation of Nepal Guardians President Suprabhat Bhandari.

According to him, the issue of running the school safely has been discussed during the meeting.

The discussion was attended by the Ministry of Education, NGF, PABSON, NPABSON, and others.

At the meeting, the parents have demanded the closure of schools in high-risk areas. “We have suggested to close classes 1 to 5 in areas where the infection is on the rise,” Bhandari said.

Private school operators, on the other hand, are of the view that schools should not be closed right now.

The Ministry of Health has recommended the closure of schools saying the risk of corona in children has increased. However, private schools have been protesting it.

The risk of coronavirus infection in children has been increasing in Nepal of late. In the last two weeks, more than 200 people under the age of 18 have been infected.

Doctors have suggested that the child should have a coronavirus test immediately if he has a fever of 104 degrees for five consecutive days and diarrhea.
