New Delhi-based brothel operator arrested from Nuwakot

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a Nepali female, who ran a brothel in New Delhi, from Nuwakot, on Friday.

The arrested is Sita Tamang, also known as Chameli or Rukmaya, of Dupcheshwor-2, Nuwakot.

Tamang had been at large ever since her involvement in trafficking of Nepali women came to light. She ran a brothel in Garstin Bastion (GB) Road of New Delhi.

A team deployed from the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police took Tamang in custody from Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot. According to the bureau, a first information report against human trafficking and forced prostitution is lodged against Tamang.

As per the FIR, one of the member of Tamang’s racket had trafficked a woman from Kathmandu to New Delhi, by tricking her. The trafficker had told the woman that she would be employed in a close acquaintance’s house in Chitwan. However, on the way the trafficker laced the woman’s drinking water with sedative following which the woman fell unconscious. After reaching New Delhi, Tamang forced the woman into prostitution.

Police are investigating the case.
