KATHMANDU: After Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s faction failed to pick a common candidate in the 14th General Convention of the party, Dr. Shekhar Koirala has finalized the names of those in his panel.
According to NC sources, Dr. Koirala enjoys the support of senior leader Poudel.
NC leaders Chandra Bhandari and Dhanraj Gurung have become Vice-President candidates from Dr. Koirala’s panel whereas Dr. Minendra Rijal and Gagan Thapa are vying for the post of General Secretary.
The panel also finalized the name of Joint General Secretary. Jivan Pariyar, Kamala Pant and Ram Krishna Yadav have been listed as Dr. Koirala’s Joint Secretary candidates from the Dalit, the woman and Madheshi quota.
Similarly, P L Chaudhary is vying from as Joint General Secretary from Tharu, Badri Pandey from backward region, Bikas Lama from Janajati and Devraj Chalise from Khas Arya community.
Leaders Chalise, Pant and Chaudhary are very close to senior leader Poudel.
