CJ Rana assigns nine benches for today amidst protests



KATHMANDU: Undeterred by the ongoing protests, Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher Rana has assigned nine benches for today.

Chief Justice Rana has assigned a single bench to himself and a full bench comprising three Justices to hear on writ petitions, said the Supreme Court.

As many as 34 cases have been assigned to a full bench of Justices comprising Hari Krishna Karki, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Sushma Lata Mathema.

Similarly, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Prakash Man Singh Raut have been assigned to hear 26 cases, Justices Meera and Tej Bahadur KC (28), Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha and Nahakul Subedi (26), a single bench of Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha (2), Bam Kumar Shrestha and Kumar Regmi (27), Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Kumar Chudal (24) and a single bench of Nahakul Subedi has been assigned with four cases.

Disgruntled Justices, who have been saying that they will hear only habeas corpus writ petitions, have been assigned to hear on writs including rape, fraud, narcotic drugs, robbery, murder, poaching, human trafficking, abduction, hostage taking among others.
