Ghandruk Jeep Accident Update: 8 killed, one rescued



KATHMANDU: Eight people, including the driver, died on the spot when a Ghandruk-bound jeep met with an accident at Kaldanda of Annapurna Rural Municipality-11 in Kaski district Monday afternoon.

According to the Province Police Office, Gandaki, one person traveling on that ill-fated jeep (Ga 1 Ja 6900), was rescued safely and his condition is normal. The driver who died in the accident has been identified as Khusiman Chettri, 42, of Nayapul at Annapurna Rural Municipality-5.

Similarly, other deceased are Jinlab Ghising, 18, of Gongabu in Kathmandu district and Suja Chaudhary, 24, from the same locality. Likewise, Liza Chaudhary, 20, Suman Chaudhary, 20, Achyutam Kafle, 22, Ashish Ale, 18, of Gongabu in Kathmandu district. Binaya Chettri, 27, of Gorkha but temporarily staying in Gongabu in Kathmandu also died in the road accident, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shrawan Kumar BK.

Injured in the incident was Devika Ghising, 20, from Gongabu in Kathmandu district who received bruises on her left hand and nose. Her condition is normal and she need not get admitted to the hospital, added DSP BK.

Devika was found hanging off a cliff and locals, in coordination with security personnel, had rescued her. The incident took place when the jeep coming from Pokhara went in reverse in the steep hill at 1:30 pm, police said.

The jeep lost its control suddenly and fell some 200 meters off the Ghumti Road at Kaldanda cliff, added District Police Office, Kaski’s DSP Subash Hamal.
