Sunday reports lowest COVID-19 infection since second-wave

KATHMANDU: Sunday reported lowest COVID-19 infection since the second wave of the pandemic. The infection rate was less than five percent.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, on Sunday, 596 out of 12,404 tested positive for the virus. In the past one month, the infection has slowed down by 60 percent.

In the third week of August, the number of active cases was 40,338 and it fell to 15,942 in the third week of September. The COVID-19 inoculation drive, people’s eagerness to follow the public health protocols against the virus and the government’s policy to contain the pandemic are said to be the factors behind the downfall of the infection.

Primarily, the mass vaccination drive is said to be a reason for controlling the virus. Similarly, 81 percent population in three districts in the Kathmandu Valley–Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur–have received the first dose of vaccine and 74 percent have been fully jabbed.
