KATHMANDU: The top-level officials of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) have expressed their continued support to Nepal’s tourism development.

At an executive program on Asia Pacific Region’s Tourism Policy and Strategy organized in the Maldives, the top-level officials of the UNWTO have assured continued support for Nepal’s tourism development during the meetings with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dr Dhananjay Regmi, according to the NTB.

In the Maldives, CEO Dr Regmi met with UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili and Director of Regional Department for Asia and the Pacific Harry Hwang on tourism recovery and other pressing issues of tourism in the post-COVID-19 era, the NTB said in a press statement.

Dr Regmi said that the UNWTO officials are willing to support Nepal’s sustainable tourism development, natural and mountaineering tourism development, and institutional capacity enhancement.

“Different countries are receiving various types of support from the UNWTO. They have received direct benefits too. In this context, the meetings with them in regard to support to Nepal remained fruitful,” CEO Dr Regmi added.

The UNWTO officials have also committed to organizing some programs of the Asia Pacific Region in Nepal in 2023.

In the Maldives, Dr Regmi also met with the Maldivian Foreign Minister. During the meeting, issues related to tourism promotion and mutual cooperation between the two countries were discussed, according to Dr Regmi.
