UML SC meet to pick delegates for Statute Convention

KATHMANDU: A Standing Committee meeting of the CPN-UML held Saturday morning dwelt on choosing representatives to participate in the party’s upcoming Statute Convention and the afternoon meeting would take up the matter further.

According to Yogesh Bhattarai, chief of the party’s publicity department, it was discussed that around 3,000 delegates would participate in the legislation convention, however, task of finalizing delegates remained.

Another meeting called for 3 pm Saturday would further discuss the matter.

As per him, the party’s organization department proposed to ensure participation of members of the current central committee, central bodies, central departments, provincial committees, district committees, people’s representatives at the provincial and local levels in the Statute Convention.

In the past, members of the National Representatives Council used to participate in Statute Convention. But, no member of the National Representative Council has been elected since the 9th general convention. Therefore, Bhattarai said delegates to the Statute Convention would be decided through interim arrangements.

Similarly, proposals related to the political, organizational and legislative issues to be tabled in the Statute Convention would be discussed in the afternoon’s meeting, said Bhattarai.
