12 NC youth leaders object to convention schedule amendment



KATHMANDU: Youth leaders of the Nepali Congress have objected to the amendment to the convention schedule. Issuing a press release 12 NC leaders took exception to the amendment in the convention schedule stating that their attention has been drawn.

“Our attention has been drawn towards the amendment to the convention schedule. We would like to draw the attention of the party leadership to ensure the timely holding of the 14th General Convention,” reads the press release.

The youth leaders have said that the ongoing sit-in and hunger strike at the party’s central office in Sanepa cannot be taken as a pleasant event even after the convention process has started. They have expressed solidarity with the demands of the cadres who are demanding proportional representation.

Chandra Bhandari, Dhanraj Gurung, Kamala Pant, Ratna Sherchan, Gururaj Ghimire, Gagan Thapa, Badri Pandey, Sarita Prasai, Jeevan Pariyar, Pradip Poudel, Ram Krishna Yadav, Kiran Yadav among others have issued the joint statement.

According to the revised schedule, the ward and town level convention for those remaining 20 districts will be held on September 21. Likewise, the rural municipality and municipality level convention will be organized on September 25.

Similarly, provincial assembly level regional convention is scheduled for September 28. District convention having only one House of Representatives constituency will be held on October 4 while district convention having more than one House of Representatives constituency will see convention to be held same day.

However, dates for the provincial level convention remains intact on October 27 to 29. The national convention of the ruling party having over 850,000 active members (57 districts) will be held from November 25-29.
