Lumbini Province Chief Sherchan gives 22 hours to claim for majority govt



BUTWAL: Lumbini Province Chief Amik Sherchan has given 22 hours’ time to the political parties to claim for a new majority government.

After the resignation of Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel, Province head Sherchan has given time till 3 pm on August 12 to form a majority government.

The province chief has called on the members of the province assembly who can get majority in support of two or more parties represented in the province assembly as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution to submit their demands for the appointment of the chief minister by 3 pm on Thursday.

Earlier, the no-confidence motion was tabled in the assembly on Wednesday after opposition Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, Janata Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha filed a no-confidence motion against CM Pokhrel.

But after Chief Minister Pokharel resigned while the no-confidence motion was being discussed in the province assembly, Province Chief Sherchan called for starting the process of forming a new government.
