NC President Deuba calls party officials’ meet to discuss general convention date

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has called a meeting of party officials to discuss the prospective date of the party’s 14th general convention.

According to NC sources, the party president has called office bearers’ meeting at his residence at 2 pm on Saturday.

Earlier, the NC had decided that the 14th general convention would be held from August 23 to 26. However, due to disputes in some districts, the distribution and renewal of active memberships have yet to complete.

Although the NC claimed there would be around one million active members, the membership distribution and renewal has listed only 800,000 active members so far. Active membership has not been distributed in some districts, including Sindhupalchowk.

Leaders including senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel have been urging President Deuba to hold the convention on the stipulated time despite the pandemic.

President Deuba has also been stating that he is committed to holding the general convention in August.

Deuba’s regular term of one and a half years as NC President is coming to an end in August.
