KATHMANDU: : The Immigration Department has said that no decision has been taken regarding the rules that require the consent of the family and the mandatory recommendation of the ward office when a woman under 40 years travels abroad alone.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the department clarified that suggestions have been received from the internal investigation task force, but no decision has been taken so far.

The statement said recommendations were needed for women traveling alone for the first time in high-risk countries such as the Gulf and Africa.

Similarly, the department has also stated that the internal investigation task force has suggested that the recommendation of family and ward may be required for women who do not even have general information about their journey.

The statement said, “Decisions on matters of public concern will be made in such a way that the rights conferred by the constitution, universal recognition, public opinion and fundamental rights will not be curtailed”.
