Prachanda-Nepal faction urges EC to halt election process

KATHMANDU: The Prachanda-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has demanded the Election Commission (EC) not to take ahead election process immediately.

Chairmen duo of the faction Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and Madhav Kumar Nepal on Monday urged Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya not to proceed with the election process arguing that the issue of the dissolution of the House of Representatives is currently sub-judice at the court.

The government has announced holding mid-term polls on April 30 and May 10 following the dissolution of the lower house.

The commission on Sunday had urged the media to create a conducive environment for the election.

Objecting to the commission’s request to create a conducive environment for the election, Prachanda and Nepal urged not to proceed with the election process immediately and to resolve the issue of legitimacy of the party as soon as possible, sources said.
