KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel-led faction to decide a consensus candidate for the party President is to be held Friday evening.

The faction has decided to hold a meeting with the central members and district chairpersons after the inauguration of the 14th General Convention.

Leaders who reached Poudel’s residence in Boharatar have informed that they will hold a meeting in the evening with four aspirants of the candidate.

Leaders including Arjun Narasimha KC, Minendra Rijal, Mahesh Acharya, Bal Bahadur KC and Gagan Thapa had reached Poudel’s residence this morning.

A leader who participated in the discussion at Poudel’s residence said, “We will put pressure on all four claimants to reach a consensus. Otherwise, we are preparing to field Ram Chandra Poudel as the common candidate for the presidency.”

He said that it was time to move ahead with a “bold” decision and put pressure on the leaders as the issue of deciding the candidates was getting too late.

Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, leaders Shekhar Koirala and Prakash Man Singh are the candidates for the post.
