ITAHARI: Dhankuta Municipality is to hold the second avocado fair.

The fair is scheduled to be held on 20 and 21 November, said Bikash Adhikari, Tourism Officer and member of the fair organizing committee of the municipality.

The fair is being held at the Avocado Park situated at ward no. 6 of Municipality. ”We are happy to receive positive curiosity from farmers, locals, and all other folks interested in avocado,” said Adhikari.

He said national and international delegates and experts on avocado would be interacting on myriad issues of avocado farming and the benefits of the fruit.

The municipality is providing free stalls for all farmers taking part in the avocado fair. The maiden avocado fair was held three years ago on 24 November 2018.

Dhankuta Municipality claims to have held ‘Asia’s first’ avocado festival.

In the same year, the local government had declared Dhankuta as the avocado capital and also constructed an avocado park with a giant avocado statue.

Dhankuat witnessed the growth of the nutrients-rich famed fruit for the first time some half-century ago. Pakhribash Agriculture Center (PAC), a project run by the British Government, had introduced avocado to Dhankuta in 1972.
