Alternative of democracy is democracy and nothing else: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that democracy’s alternative is democracy and nothing else.

While declaring Gandaki a literate province in Pokhara Sunday, asserting no one could snatch away democracy PM Deuba warned all and sundry not to carry out any activity against democracy.

“Everyone ought to listen: Democracy’s alternative is democracy. No one should dream against democracy,” Deuba said, “The alternative to democracy is democracy and nothing else.”

Stating that everyone did politics in the name of people, the prime minister said people would reveal their mandate in the election. “Everybody does politics in the name of people; people will show their views in elections,” he said.

Much remains to be done even though Gandaki is declared a literate province, he added. He was of the view that education is a fundamental right and everyone should get it.

On coronavirus, Prime Minister Deuba said the international community and the World Health Organization appreciated Nepal government’s efforts to control the pandemic. In the same vein, he claimed the United Kingdom had removed Nepal from its red list of countries because Nepal was able to control the virus through vaccination.
