KATHMANDU: The Secretary-General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Esala Ruwan Weerakoon is in the Maldives on an introductory visit.
The SAARC Secretary-General, who assumed office as the 14th SG of SAARC during March 2020, arrived in the Maldives on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives.
SAARC SG Weerakoon is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on a number of government officials during his visit.
He is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as well as the Ambassador at Large and Former SAARC Secretary-General Ahmed Saleem.
SAARC SG Weerakoon will also be holding meetings with the former long-serving President of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as well as the President of the Civil Service Commission Mohamed Nasih.
The SAARC SG will conclude his visit and depart the Maldives on October 13.
Weerakoon is accompanied by spouse Krishanti Weerakoon and Director, Social Affairs Division at SAARC Secretariat, Ismail Mamdhooh.
