Hearing on the writ petition against Kulman Ghising’s appointment postponed again

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on a writ petition against the appointment of Kulman Ghising as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

According to sources, the writ petition was assigned to the single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana himself.

The hearing could not be held on Friday after the writ petitioner’s lawyer sought adjournment of the hearing.

Earlier, on August 24, Chief Justice Jabra had ordered the concerned party to provide the original documents relating to the appointment of Ghising as NEA’s Managing Director and transfer of Hitendra Dev Shakya from there.

The Council of Ministers had appointed Shakya as the officiating MD since November 2020 and as Executive Director of NEA in February, 2021.  However, the NEA which had been in profit in the consecutive three years during Ghising’s tenure had seen an alarming loss in the first year of Shakya’s tenure.
