UML taskforce meeting concludes for today

To hammer out intra-party feud by Sunday

KATHMANDU: Ruling CPN-UML, which is beset by long overdue intra-party feud, has said it will officially announce the consensus struck between the two warring factions by Sunday.

Talking to media persons following the UML taskforce meeting held in Singha Durbar on Saturday evening, UML leader Gokarna Bista, who is also a taskforce member, said consensus has been almost been reached and it will be made public tomorrow.

“We have sought a consensus on a package as per the aspiration of the entire party rank and file and the people in general,” said Bista, adding, “We will make it public tomorrow.”

The Supreme Court (SC) is issuing a verdict on the writ petition on the dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday.

Leader Bista said the UML will hammer out intra-party differences prior to the verdict.

The taskforce members representing leader Madhav Nepal had gone to Koteshwor to meet with him prior to the meeting.

Earlier, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda had also met with Nepal.

Dahal had gone to Koteshwor to take stock of Nepal’s health condition.

The sixth day meeting of the ruling CPN-UML taskforce formed to resolve the intra-party dispute had started at the Ministry of Finance on Saturday evening.

Both factions busied themselves the whole day discussing about the final stances and the possible interpretations of the agreement prepared by the task force members.

Prime Minister Oli faction was holding discussions in Singha Durbar while Khanal-Nepal faction was holding discussions in Babar Mahal.

The rift in the party began as UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives for the first time last year. The rift widened with Oli dissolving the parliament for the second time two months ago.
